Executive Officer - Departments - City of Parma Police Department

Captain Wayne Schmigel is a 29 year veteran of the Parma Police Department. He has been involved in all facets of police work and has served as a supervisor in the Criminal Investigation Division, as well as the Uniform Patrol Division. Captain Schmigel is a 2006 Graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety – School of Police Staff and Command and in November 2006 was assigned as the Executive Officer of the Department.

Capt Schmigel served as Commanding Officer of the Uniform Patrol Division from 1998-2001 and 2003-2006. He has been instrumental in the creation of the Department’s Bomb Squad and was one of the first officers to attend the elite FBI Hazardous Devices School in Huntsville, Alabama. Capt Schmigel is an original member of the SWAT Team formed in 1982 and served as SWAT Commander from 1990-2001 and on an interim basis from 2001-2006.

As Executive Officer, Captain Schmigel’s assignments include overseeing the correctional facility, maintenance of the Justice Center, property and evidence management, departmental budget audits, training of all department personnel and coordinating the recently formed Citizen’s Police Academy.

The Parma Police Department and its officers are charged with the responsibility of protecting the lives, rights, property and dignity of all Parma residents and visitors. As such, the Department believes that all members shall be provided with the best training possible. To accomplish this goal, Capt Schmigel has established a comprehensive in-service training program to maximize the professional and personal development of all officers. By maximizing personal training and development, this training fosters a level of confidence and knowledge that allows the Parma Police Department to meet the daily challenges associated with an ever changing and complex society.
